Q&A: Any idea when I can expect my financial aid to get sorted out? National Student Loan Contact

Any thought when I can expect my financial aid to get sorted out?

I was attending the University of Phoenix online. I went and chose to go my local community college. UoP classes are very expensive – $ 295 per credit hour. I was one week into class when I chose to transfer. I paid UoP off what I owed them and they sent my loans and grants back at the end of April. Now my financial aid has been denied by my local community college because the National Student Loan Data System is still showing that UoP has these funds. I’ve been told by the community college that UoP could sort this out if they wanted, UoP told me to contact the lender (like that will fix the fact that the grants are still showing up), and the lender says they can’t do anything about it. When can I expect this to get sorted out? I start at the community college in less than one month for the Summer. I’ve sent receipts to them from UoP where they sent the money back, but the NSLDS is still showing that they have the money.

I used to work for UoP (Axia) Here is what you want to do: Contact the Call Center – Whoever the rep is that answers, clarify the situation. If they don’t offer to, question them if you can have SSIL (Student Support Internal Liason) review your file, and update the NSLDS If this will gets you nowhere, which won’t if everyone does their jobs, then go to step 2 Contact the Financial Aid office and let them know it is their dependability to update the grant in rank, per the Department of Education guideline. For reference please refer to http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/SaFaqDetail.do?faqpage=faq6#faq6.ques.5 If they refuse at this point, you demand to speak with the Director of Finance. IF, all of these things do not work, you will need to contact the Financial aid customer service line through the DoE (1-800-433-3243) and question them to conference you to the FAO’s office. If, that still does not work, you now have just cause to file a greivance with the DoE, and file a claim for hurts that the school has taken intential and malicious action (or lack thereof) to impede your ability to further your education. I sincerely hope it does not come to that. Bottom line, this dependability falls on your school. Normal NSLDS updates happen approx every 6 months. You need to make them expedite this. Excellent Luck!

SLRP contact for the Army?

My paperwork has been place on the bottom pile and i need it expedited. It has been over 5 months now since I submitted my ppwk for the Student Loan repayment. I dont want to default…but that office that has been working on it is not getting back to me. Can you suggest as to who contact for this? I was in the National Guard and this is for my student loan repayment. i re-enlisted…but i did submit the ppwk prior to my ets the first time.

im in the national guard and that was my worry was that nothing would happen when i went for my loan repayment. talk to your sergeant or try to get a hold of the company commander or the captain. possibly even the master sergeant or the sergeant major. all of this can be found online but any one of those should be able to get the ball rolling.

the army is NEVER reliable when it comes to paying you. i had friends in my unit who dindt get their jump pay for over 2 years evn though they were keeping up on thir jumps. also had a friend who joined 6 yeras ago and is still waiting to get his initial enlistment bonus. dont get your hopes too high

You said “I was in the National Guard”. Are you still in? Once you get out, the Army stops paying. They only make monthly payments while you’re in. Edit: If you turned in your promissary note prior to re-enlistment and had your SLRP in your contract, then there is probably just a mild paperwork mistake somewhere. Unfortunately, that has far reaching penalty if your loans are about to go into default or if you are still paying out of your own pocket. Call your squad leader and let him know you need to talk to admin so he isn’t blind sided next drill. Then call admin and let them know you have a serious problem and that they need to probe. Give them a few days and follow up. If they still don’t have an answer for you, call your state education office and make some waves. You may end up talking to a Major or LtCol or their assisstant, so be polite.

Army National Guard Student Loan Repayment

What in rank do I need to get approved for a home loan?

My husband is in the Air National Guard full-time and I’m a full-time student. What kind of in rank do we need to bring with us to the bank? I know I need some sort of in rank for my school about when I’ll be done so they know when my loans will be out of deferment. Who do I contact about that and what should I question for?

1. Driver Licenses, SSNs. 2. Pay stubs 3. Bank statements showing balances in your acct 4. A list of your household expenses, as in how much for housing, food, education, car payment, student loan payment, etc 5. Proof of funds for a down payment 6. Patience, and patience

You will really need to speak with a loan originator who will gather basic in rank at first and input it into the system to see if you even qualify for a loan. Once that in rank is given (driver’s licenses, military id’s, employment in rank, personal and business references, rental in rank, school in rank, student loans) they will then pre-qualify you for a loan of up to a certain amount. If you get pre-approved, you will then know how much you are approved for before looking at properties. That s just the first step. Next interview 3-5 agents or Realtors and see who will work the best for you. Some agents are only in it for the money while others really work to get you the property you want and will take care of you through the whole process. After you find an agent, make sure he/she understands your needs and wants. Tell them what price range you want to look at (below loan qualification is best) and that you do not want to be shown higher priced homes. If the agent wants to show you homes out of your range, then question whether you really want to work with an agent who doesn’t listen to you. You’d be surprised how some agents work.

Yes i do, and it HELL to get this done….

1st…are you enrolled in the CLRP (college loan repayment program) if not im not sure if the army works the same as the air force, but you need to have that in your contract when you first sign up…if not you WILL NOT get your loans repaid…

2ndThey will not automatically take over your payments…put your loan on a deferment status as soon as possible! You will need to get with your base Education office. (There is a form, cant recall it) that you need to fill out. It has all your loan information and your lender name, location account numbers, how much ect… fill it out

3rd Take that form and send it into your lender for there verification…once they receive it, they “should” (i quote that becasue this is where it was hell for me) send the verification back to the Army’s education office.

4th…once this is accomplished then you will have to deffer your payments every year until the army pays it off…You are correct about the 33%…BUT the Army will only pay your loan amount….not the interest that accrues over the time that it is differed…don’t forget about that….you will need to pay that amount off yourself…

so in small visit your base education office and tell them you are enrolled in the CLRP program

You need to DEFER your loans again before you payments start up. In your situation get the paper work again and re submit it. Don’t wait on them, it will never get done…this time make copies of everything you fill out so you don’t have to go back and re fill the same shit out again when the lose it.

hope this helps…and it is a lot smoother than what it was for me…

I am an ARNG Bn Career Counselor and deal with the SLRP on daily basis.

You need to read yoru SLRP contract very carefully as it gives amazing details that you probably didnt know……..I will help with some of those issues here.

1. Your contract states that YOU are responsible for the loans and the ARNG is not assuming liability for those loans. This means you still have to keep them current regardless if the ARNG is late on payment etc. This is HUGE. Ask your lender for forbearance on financial hardship basis, make the payment, anything, but do NOT go into Default or you lose SLRP for that loan.
2. You need to sign a DD 2475 for EACH loan/lender that you have. You should be doing this 90 days prior to your anniversary date. YOU are responsible for bringing this up (according to contract).
3. Once you sign the 2475′s they are sent out to lenders who fill out their portions and return them to your EDU office or unit. If the lender takes 5 months to fill it out………guess what… your payment isnt gonna happen for awhile. You need to call your bank and see if/when they completed and returned the 2475
4. If you have multiple lenders, NO payment will be made on any loan until ALL 2475′s are turned in. Again, call your banks….
5. The DD 2475 only allows the lender to release specific info in writing back to the military. You are the only one authorized to talk to your lender. No Military rep can call and ask these questions on your behalf.
6. If you are flagged or not sat participant in any way, this COULD be holding up your payment as well, dependent on WHEN you signed your contract (this determines suspension terms).
7. Once you do get a payment from the guard, call your lenders and tell them to apply the payment to your Monthly payments and not just take it off the principal. This will keep you from havig to make all your payments for the year, although you may still have to make some payments.
8. SLRP is taxable income. Dont forget to download a SLRP W2 from MyPay for the years you get payments.

I do not want you to think that the Unit and Education Office in your state doesnt have responsibilites as well. But usually it is a lender holding up a payment by not submitting paperwork and the Soldier not following up with the lenders.

If you are working thru your unit and they cannot/will not help, contact the SLRP manager at your JFHQ Education office and work thru them directly. They should be able to answer the hard questions.

If you are working with the EDU office and they are not helping, you need to press it further for answers. You have the IG or the State Retention folks that I am sure are more than willing to help.

Sorry for any mispells…….having a bad day typing…
Good luck.
