Canada, post-sec school, grants?
I have no zero luck in finding a job. All jobs I’ve had, have been small term and under the table and through friends/family. The current job I am working at, has been the longest lasting and highest paying job I’ve had on the books, but I have a feeling it is coming to an end soon because the guy I work for has been cutting hours and is now himself, working at another place so I reckon he wants to pack it up. I attended a community college, studying for A+ official recollection (because I am very knowledgeable in that field from being self taught and training) and went for the exam but failed – I can’t place the stuff I know on paper, never could even in school.) I’m still unsure of what I want to do. My three interests are anything to do with computers (hardware/software, repairing, network and security), AutoCAD (which I am pretty excellent at from using it often on my own) and possibly zoology. Of course the job I currently have doesn’t pay enough to afford a reliable school, since like everyone else, I have bills too and I am trying to save for a car so that I can venture out further to find more potential jobs. So I am looking into government grants (preferably) as to student loans because I don’t know if I could keep up with a loan. I’m not expecting the grant to cover the cost of everything, but to help by paying a percent of the cost of my studies. Of course the more the better. Anyone have any info or experience about getting a grant in Canada (Ontario)? I’ve read through the government site, but don’t know where to start. You can apply for student loans, but the majority of grants through OSAP require that you also take the loan. If you cannot pass the industry official recollection exams, your like of computers will not lead to a career as most companies demand the certs. Have you considered doing something where you can use your computer knowledge as an adjunct to something else?
How can I get a student loan without a co-signer?
So here’s the problem: First, I have excellent credit. I live in Canada so please don’t post links for American students. I work full time (not enough to place away savings) and I’m 19. The government is already lending me $ 19 500 (max) to pay for my tuition, but I still needed money for living expenses (it’s a intense 12 month program that’ll eat away me evenings and weekends as well, so no part time job). The school is giving me a erudition of $ 10 000 towards living but I’m still $ 6000 small. I applied at 2 banks now but because my father is a retired with only pension they wouldn’t give me a loan and he was my ONLY co-signer. There is no extended family or really generous friends option. My dad was my only choice. I can’t afford a loan from a 3rd party personal loan because of the interest (I’d be taking out the loan to pay for the loan) and I’ve applied for every grant I could find with no results. What can I do? Thanks NO SENDING E-MAILS FOR 3rd PARTY LOAN COMPANIES!! And when I said no e-mails from 3rd party loan companies, I also meant no answers offering loans out of their hotmail service since it’s so shady. A Stafford/Perkins loan would have been fantastic if I wasn’t a Canadian citizen and not American. Both loans are only open to American students. I’ve investigated every bank I’ve ever had contacts with and despite my excellent credit they want a co-signer. It’s not that I don’t know how to get a student loan, it’s that no one will give it to me without a co-signer!! ….does anyone even read the details, or just the question? As an English student I can forget how much help we get (we have a student loans company that pays for tutition and maintance which we only have to pay back when earn more then 15k a year and even then we only pay back £15 a month) But if your having major issues one option is if you have anyone who would be willing to do it, get them to take out a loan for the other 6k for you and then you pay then back. Hope it all works out for you. X
Certain student loans require a cosigner if the student or parent soliciting a loan does not meet minimum credit supplies to receive a loan. This applies to both private and some federal loans; the PLUS loans for graduate students, which can be received by parents or students, have minimum credit supplies, and in either case, parent or student can use a cosigner with excellent credit to sign on the loan. Getting student loans without a cosigner is possiblelenders will offer you Prime interest rates on your student loans; if you have no credit or terrible credit, they may question that you have a cosigner. Question at several different financial institutions what they can do to accommodate your education finance needs.Usually terrible credit loans are given at a higher interest rate and/or with extra fees, but you can lower this number by calling different lenders and demanding the best possible rate.
