Do my parents make too much money to be eligible for grants from FAFSA ? Fafsa Grants

Yes you are eligible. You just might not get the maximum amount. My parents combined make over $ 100k and I still received enough loans to cover my $ 50k in schooling. I was eligible for Pell Grant but my school didn’t accept those grants.

Yes your parents make too much money for you to get a federal Pell grant. But this does not mean you won’t get approved for Unsubsidized Stafford loans and your parents can get parent PLUS loans. You can borrow up to 5500 a year in stafford loans and if your parents are willing, they can get more.

You will not know for sure until you and your parents complete the FAFSA. But, you’ll probably will not get very much of a pell grant. Getting student loans will be an option. Locate and apply for as many scholarships as you can. Thousands of scholarships exist. But, you will have to spend time locating the scholarships that you are qualified for. It’s not really so much a number of grants as the maximum amount of money you are allowed to receive and in what types. Like for me for instance, it applies me for 17,000 (what it has determined I need based on school and living situation) in grants and then starts by trying to make it all “grants” then when I can’t get anymore grants (based on income) they give subsidized loans (no interest) and then when those are all given out they give unsubsidized loans (interest). So it’s not like it puts you in the running for say 50 different grants.

Well, as far as I know, or at least at my college, the FAFSA is the only attention because it applies you for the Pell Grant, Cal Grant (if your a CA resident and its before the deadline), the SEOG, and anything else out there. You prob want to contact the financial aid department at both schools and they should be able to help you.

First you need to go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and add WVU to your FAFSA, until you do that, WVU will not be able to see the in rank on your FAFSA. Then you need to contact the financial aid office at WVU and let them know your situtation. They will look at your FAFSA, look at what you received at the other school, and then let you know what you will be eligible for at WVU. Sometimes you get the same amount you received at the other school, but sometimes you do not. For instance, most types of state grants do NOT transfer. PELL, ACG, SMART and Stafford Loans are usually the only things that transfer. If you had things like SEOG, Perkins Loan or Work-Study, it is not guaranteed these things will transfer. You can transfer aid only at the start of a new semester. You transfer aid by adding the school to your FAFSA just submit a correction and add the school and follow-up with the school you want to go to they would receive the correction and your FAFSA within 1 week. Your state aid will transfer to same state the federa pell grant will transfer to any state in the US if one particular school gave you gift aid/ grant from that particular school it would only be given if you stay at that university.
